West Peruvian Dove

The broad white band along the wing is the first feature to look for on this medium-sized dove. White outer corners to the tail and violet-blue bare skin around the eye provide further clues. Check these details carefully when comparing it with the Eared Dove.

Its expansion into Patagonia has followed river valleys and settlements. Trees, gardens and farmland create suitable patches within otherwise dry country. Birds may feed on the ground or in trees, and their repeated cooing can draw attention to an individual before it is seen.
