Chalk-browed Mockingbird (Mimus saturninus)

The Chalk-browed Mockingbird is a medium-sized songbird easily recognized by its bold white eyebrow stripe, or ‘chalk brow,’ contrasting with its grayish-brown plumage. Common across much of South America, including Patagonia, this species is known for its lively personality and remarkable vocal abilities. It frequently perches in open view, singing loudly and mimicking a variety of sounds from its surroundings. Social and inquisitive, Chalk-browed Mockingbirds are often seen in pairs or small groups, defending their territory vigorously against intruders. Their adaptability allows them to thrive in a wide range of habitats, from grasslands and shrublands to city parks and gardens.

Habitat

Open woodlands, shrublands, grasslands, agricultural areas, and urban parks throughout Patagonia and other regions.

Foraging

Feeds mainly on insects, fruits, and berries, foraging on the ground or in low vegetation.
