Snowy Egret (Egretta thula)

Order: Pelecaniformes
Family: Ardeidae

The Snowy Egret is a graceful, medium-sized heron recognized by its pure white feathers, long black legs, and distinctive yellow feet. In Patagonia, it is often seen wading in shallow wetlands, lakes, and estuaries, searching for food. This species is known for its active foraging behavior, often stirring the water with its feet to flush out prey. During the breeding season, adults develop long, delicate plumes on their back, neck, and head, which they display in elaborate courtship rituals. The Snowy Egret is a social bird, frequently found in small groups or mixed flocks with other waders. Its adaptability allows it to thrive in a variety of wetland habitats across the Americas, including the southern reaches of South America.
