Steinbach's Canastero

Order: Passeriformes Family: Furnariidae Steinbach's Canastero is a small, secretive songbird belonging to the ovenbird family. It is characterized by its warm brown plumage, streaked underparts, and a long, graduated tail. Often unobtrusive, it is most readily detected by its dry, sharp song delivered from dense vegetation. This Argentine endemic inhabits dry Monte scrub and other arid habitats, and has also been documented in Chubut. Its restricted Argentine distribution makes accurate information about habitat and local occurrence particularly important. It forages for insects and other small invertebrates on the ground and in low shrubs.
