About the species
The White-tailed Hawk is a large, broad-winged raptor of open habitats across much of the Americas. Adults are recognized by a white tail with a broad black subterminal band; both light and dark plumage morphs occur. It uses grasslands, savannas, shrublands and agricultural landscapes, hunting small vertebrates from perches or while soaring. In the Península Valdés area the species remains hypothetical: observations have been reported, but there are no confirmed, verifiable local records.
Habitat
Open grasslands, savannas, shrublands and agricultural landscapes across its broader American range. Its occurrence in the Península Valdés area is unconfirmed.
Foraging
Hunts from the air by soaring or hovering, scanning for small mammals, reptiles, birds, and large insects.
