Order: Passeriformes

The Saffron Finch is a striking yellow songbird native to South America, including parts of northern Patagonia. Males are especially vibrant, with deep saffron-yellow feathers and subtle orange on the crown, while females are duller. These social birds are often seen in pairs or small flocks, frequenting open areas, grasslands, and urban parks. Their melodious, lively song is a familiar sound in their range. Adaptable and resilient, Saffron Finches have expanded their range with human settlement and are sometimes kept as pets. They breed in tree cavities or even in man-made structures, lining their nests with grasses and feathers. Their presence adds a splash of color and song to the Patagonian landscape.
Habitat
Open grasslands, agricultural fields, gardens, and urban parks across northern Patagonia and other regions.
Foraging
Feeds mainly on seeds, occasionally insects, foraging on the ground or low vegetation.
