Its song is a simple, melodious series of notes, often heard during the breeding season. The Carbonated Sierra Finch is a member of the tanager family, though it resembles finches in both appearance and behavior. It is a year-round resident in its range and is considered an important part of the Patagonian avifauna.

Habitat

Prefers open steppe, arid shrublands, and grasslands of southern Argentina and Chile, especially in Patagonia.

Foraging

Feeds mainly on seeds and small insects, foraging on the ground or among low vegetation.
